Boating Again!
Hey guys. Good news! We’re actually boating again!! Our engine problems are resolved and we’re back out on the water.
Last weekend we got together for an overnighter with our friends Tony & Kim aboard the “Mrs. Kimberly”, their 26′ Regal Express Cruiser.
The weekend forecast was calling for 85 degrees, sunny skies, and zero rain chance for Saturday and possible late afternoon showers for Sunday. That sounds perfect.
Usually, a weekend overnighter is all about a Saturday party, grilling out on the boat, and just having fun with our friends into the evening. Sunday is more about breakfast on the boat in the morning and watching the daytrippers arrive. Maybe even cooking out again for lunch.
One BIG plus about staying out on anchor overnight is; a full day of partying doesn’t end with putting the boat on the trailer and attempting to drive home afterwards. That’s NEVER a good decision.
The Plan
The plan was to meet on Saturday morning around 9 a.m. on the beautiful “Conway Chain of Lakes” and hang out for the day Sandbar Style with our many local friends and then party into the evening.
Sometimes the weather forecasters get it WRONG. Saturday was one of those times. As we gathered at the boat ramp, we were met with cloudy skies and light rain early. No big deal. We’re excited for the weekend and a little rain has never kept us from boating.
It’s about 10 a.m. when we arrived at the sandbar, and Jennifer and I were happy to see 6-8 boats already there. The Lake Conway locals are hardcore!
The clouds and rain were spotty throughout the morning, but as more and more of our friends began to show up, the weather started to improve.
By 3:00 the skies had cleared, the sun was out, and the party was fully underway. We spent the afternoon catching up with all of the local goings-on and just hanging out with good people.
Sunset on Lake Conway
Sunset in Florida this time of year happens around 8:30 and the time between lunch and dinner can go long when everyone is having fun in the sun.
Around 7:00, Kim and Tony fired up their grill for dinner and we followed their lead. We warmed up our grill for the steaks and corn that Jennifer had prepared. Mmm….. Steak.
Dinner was awesome and after a little clean-up, the four of us kicked back with an evening cocktail and watched as one by one the Sandbar crowd pulled their anchors and disappeared across the lake.
The clouds and rain from the morning were a distant memory by now and the promise of an epic Florida sunset was upon us.
As the sun rested slowly on the horizon, we joked that a full day of partying combined with a big dinner would lead to an early evening off to bed. We did crash early but oh, what a great day on the water!
Good Sunday Morning
Waking up on the boat is always a treat. Sunday morning was no exception. We were the only two boats on anchor overnight and the early morning water was calm and undisturbed. So quiet and peaceful.
As the sun rose on our stern, the four of us recount the day before over coffee and breakfast. By 9 a.m. the lake around us began to come alive with boat activity. Wakeboarders, fishermen, and the Sunday gathering of Sandbar regulars.
Jennifer and I had some things to do later, and the decision was made to wind it up early. Kim and Tony agreed, and we laughed about how easy it would be to get wrapped up in another great day out there, so we decided to head towards the trailers.
We are so very happy to be back out on the beautiful waters of Florida with our boat and we’re looking forward to our next opportunity to share our boating fun with all of you.
